With a revival in the body positivity movement came the desire to rewrite the narrative surrounding conventional feminine undergarments.
Often designed for us but not by us, these outfit staples tended to prioritize sex appeal over comfortability — until recently.
The resurgence of the comfortable undergarments that both empower the wearer and offer support in all the right places is one major piece to the body positive puzzle.
Let’s start the conversation with one of the most versatile (and cozy) additions to the undergarment arena: the bralette.
What is a bralette?
Simply put, bralettes are unstructured bras featuring no underwire, no lining, and minimal padding, offering a more natural shape. In recent years, this style has become increasingly popular because it prioritizes style and comfortability at the same time.
How do I know what size bralette to get?
Because of their all-around simplified nature, picking the right size bralette tends to be way less of a headache than discerning your traditional bra size.
We recommend measuring around the fullest part of your bust with the tape slightly relaxed, then measuring more snugly around your ribcage.
Use these measurements as the foundation for your search, and be sure to consult all of the available sizing information to nail the perfect fit. If you find that you are in between sizes, we suggest sizing up for a more forgiving fit. In the business for something a little more snug? No biggie, just size down!
How to wear a bralette
Comfortability isn’t the only amazing thing about the bralette — aesthetic versatility is another major component that makes this style so wonderful. The bralette can be the focal point of an outfit, serving as a funky substitution for a more traditional shirt or blouse.
On the other end of the spectrum, the bralette can make for a subtle yet accentuating outfit addition. Wear this style under a loose-fitting or opaque top to add a vibrant, unexpected pop of color to any ensemble.
With all of these colors to choose from, you will certainly be able to find that perfect shade to make your skin-tone pop.
How to style a bralette
The bralette can be somewhat of an aesthetic chameleon, effortlessly transitioning from classy to casual depending on what you choose to style it with.
For a more refined look, rock your bralette under a classic white button-down and pair that with your favorite slacks and some heels and you're ready to hit the office.
Desiring a more casual errand-Sunday vibe? Style your bralette under a loose T-shirt and throw on some leggings or denim shorts and you’re good to go.
Found your favorite shade or pattern? Don’t hide your bralette behind an outfit, show it off by making it the centerpiece!
Throw on a maxi-skirt or pair it with some trusty denim and you have the perfect fit for Mother Nature’s more sunny seasons.
